CIO PANELIST Derek has relocated all business critical applications to a SAS70 Type II location and in 2006 successfully completed a Sarbanes Oxley audit after IPO completion. Derek has been a member of Technology/Improvement committees with Texas State University, Cal State University (PeopleSoft project) and currently serves as a School Board Trustee for a local district.
CIO PANELIST Colin joined Intelligentz in 2006 as VP of Operations. In early 2007, he became the CIO, leveraging his 13 years in high-tech and telecom. Prior to Intelligentz, Colin was the Director of IT for Time Warner Cable, running a 10 person team to support 1,200 employees and 400,000 subscribers within Texas. Colin served in IT management roles in two previous startups and has worked with 10 other startups since 1994, including Trilogy and Sitestuff.com. Colin has a B.S. in Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
CIO PANELIST Barry Hutt has over 20 years of experience leading organizations and driving product solutions for prestigious technology companies ranging from Fortune 100 companies such as IBM, Dell, and VERITAS Software to emerging Virtualization Technology Companies such as VDIWorks and ClearCube. Barry has held numerous roles including consultant, business development, sales, software and hardware development. Additionally, Barry has architected and launched professional services organizations, technical sales and solution companies, revenue-producing training teams, and two storage business units for original design manufacturing companies from the ground up. A highlight of Barry’s career is founding the Professional Services Organization at Dell Computer. There he worked, one-on-one with the office of the chair and Michael Dell, to create consulting services division within the business. The new venture drove over $30 Million of revenue in its first year. Barry’s unique blend of extensive product knowledge and understanding of customers’ unique needs has resulted in his holistic approach to solving customer IT strategy, planning, implementation and sustaining service needs – an approach where existing infrastructure can be turned into a valuable asset using virtualization solutions. Barry holds a BSCS from the State University of New York at New Paltz.

Mr. Arend serves in leadership positions in a variety of local organizations. Mr. Arend serves on the Houston Technology Center’s (HTC’s) Advisory Board and is a member of Technology Executives Club of Houston (TECH) with other technology executives in the Houston market. He is also a member of the Board for the Baylor University Bear Foundation. Bill earned a B.B.A. in Marketing with a minor in Information Technology from Baylor University. He enjoys raising his son and two young daughters with his wife, coaching youth sports, and playing basketball and golf.
Featured Presenter Scott Eveler started working at Dell in June of 08 as a Storage Specialist after spending the last 12 years as an IT Director. Most recently, Scott was the IT Director of Boots and Coots which is the premier well control and emergency response company in the World. Scott was in charge of all infrastructure operations in the US and across the world. He converted Boots from a physical server environment to a 100% virtual infrastructure. Prior to Boots and Coots, Scott was the IT Director of Empire Truck Lines which was the largest intermodal company in the South. Scott transformed Empire from a few hundred green screens to a fully networked, client server infrastructure that was 100% virtual as well. Scott received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Computer Information Systems from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Featured Presenter Joseph Shaffner is the North American Technical Director for Sybase, Inc. Joseph has been in technical sales for over fourteen years with Sybase. He has actively engaged with large enterprise operations such as AOL, Federal Express, Nielsen Media other Federal Agencies specializing in Data Warehousing development and design. Prior to joining Sybase, Joseph was a financial systems consultant with several firms, including Price Waterhouse. He received a BS in Business Administration and BS in Economics from the University of Maine an MBA from George Washington University, and completed an Executive Leadership Program at Stanford, and resides in Silver Spring, Maryland.
